NSW: Fire crews prepare to battle blaze south-west of Sydney

Fire crews are stepping up resources as concerns increase over bushfires burning south-west
of Sydney this morning.

New South Wales Rural Fire Service spokesman CAMERON WADE says 16 fires are burning
in the Wollondilly area, near the state's southern highlands.

He says 20 units have mobilised at Picton to contain the blazes.

A westerly wind forecast for this afternoon could fan the fires towards homes in the
Oakdale and Thirlmere areas.

But Mr WADE says there's no need for residents of the area to be worried at this stage.
